>> How to bring your pet dog or cat into or back into the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)?

To bring your dog or cat into the UK under PETS you must have the following procedures carried out in the right order: 

• Have your PET microchipped (If your dog was tatooed in France, Denmark, Belgium or Sweden he can be microchipped after being vaccinated. This also applies for cats tatooed in France only)

• Have your PET vaccinated against rabies 

• Arrange a blood test (not applicable for ferrets). Pets may not enter or re-enter the UK until 6 calendar months have passed from the date that a vet took the blood sample which gave a satisfactory test result.

• Have your PET treated against ticks and a tapeworm* not less than 24 hours and not more than 48 hours before it is checked in with an approved transport company for its journey into the UK.

Stronghold is not a licensed treatment for ticks or rabies vaccination.

*Ticks & tapeworm treatment to be given by a registred vet and logged in your pets passport.


Pets passport

The EU pet passport was introduced in July 2004 for cats and dogs travelling between the UK and other EU countries.

The passport must confirm your pet's microchip number and date the microchip was inserted, the rabies vaccination and provision for recording the tick and tapeworm treatment. A Eurotunnel agent will be checking this information on the day of your journey.

(To be accepted under the PETS programme, the vaccination against rabies done after the 1 October 2004 must be shown on a passport and not on a certificate, however if your pet was vaccinated before this date, the official veterinary certificate is accepted until the "valid until" date shown.)
